VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS & DESCRIPTIONS

photoFirst Aid
Each rest stop needs at least one medical person who provides minor medical assistance.  The Walk route also needs medical personnel and an ambulance for any major emergencies.  EMT's, paramedics and nurses are needed for this assignment.

General Volunteer
Volunteers who assist with a variety of needs from lunch-food-runners, trash patrol and box bundlers, to unloading pizza, directing Walkers on the route and handling any unforeseen needs.  Responsible high school-aged volunteers are excellent for this assignment.

Greeters 
Volunteers with lots of energy who cheer for the Walkers as they complete the final mile. Noisemakers, bubbles and other fun items will be provided.  High school groups are excellent volunteers for this assignment.  High enthusiasm is required.

Hotel Decorating (Day One)
Volunteers are needed to decorate banquet room for evening dinner. All materials are provided.

Hotel Decorating (Day Two) 
Volunteers are needed to decorate banquet room for evening dinner. All materials are provided.

Massage Therapists
Provides the Walkers with a free 10-minute massage atthe hotel on Friday (DayOne) and Saturday (Day Two). Massage phototherapists are also needed for
the shuttle pick-up location on Day Two for chair neck massages.

Luggage Loading
Volunteers are needed to load the participants' luggage onto a truck and make sure it is clearly and securely tagged with a name and number.  Additionally, remind the Walker that if they need necessary items out of their luggage, because once the luggage is loaded onto the truck it is not retrievable.

Luggage Valet
Assisting the Walkers with their luggage by carrying it to their room on Day One. (They are exhausted after walking 20 miles.)  Outgoing and high energy volunteers are needed.  Valets do not make tips.

Photographer (professional)
Work your way along the route snapping photos of sponsorship signage, happy event participants, children, scenery and the magnitude and excitement of it all! You must use your own transportation and equipment (digital camera and memory card). If you volunteer on Friday or Saturday, you must and bring ALL images to the host hotel (Del Mar Marriott) between 2 and 3PM on the SAME DAY. Sunday volunteers may mail photos on CD or DVD within a week of the event. Photos will be used for the evening's presentation, future marketing materials (photo credit will be given wherever possible), sponsorship verification and more. Route Markers
Volunteers will mark the Challenge Walk route one day prior to the event to ensure the Walkers' safety and keep them on the correct course. All route markers will be taken down at the end of each day. Four groups of two people are needed.

Rest Stops
Volunteers will help set up the rest stops by setting up tables and decorations, keeping drinks cold, cutting up fruit, recycling bottles, leaving the site clean and cheering on the Walkers. We need a minimum of five volunteers per rest stop.

Route
Volunteers assist the Route Captains by setting up directional route markers, delivering items to the rest stops, assisting with transporting participants and
handling any other needs photoalong the route.

SAG Drivers 
SAG drivers are volunteers who drive support and gear (SAG) vehicles along the route and provide transportation assistance. A valid CA Drivers license and proof of insurance is required and the driver must also be able to operate a vehicle safely in congested areas.

Set Up
Volunteers assist with the site set-up including tents, tables and chairs.  Men, fraternities and military groups are excellent volunteers for this assignment.  Self-starters and hard workers are needed to make the set-up happen smoothly.

Start/Finish Line
Volunteers are needed to cheer on the Walkers at the start and finish lines.  College students, grade school students, Girl Scouts and Brownies are good volunteers for this position.  Noisemakers, bubbles, signs and other fun items are provided to bring excitement and energy. Friendly, enthusiastic and energetic individuals needed.

Teams Photographer (professional)
Work with staff and other volunteers at the Team Photography booth. Teams (ranging from 4 to 20+ people) will pose on the risers and you snap away! You must use your own equipment (digital camera and memory card); set your camera to take each photo at least 630x450 pixels or (2MB size). You must provide ALL images on CD or DVD within a week of the event. We provide your images to the teams as special memorabilia of the event! Call (760) 448-8424 with any questions.

Tear Down
Assist with the event site cleanup including taking down tents, folding tables and chairs to prepare the items for the rental company pickup. All trash needs to be collected and dumped. 

Trash Pick-Up
Volunteers do a final sweep of the closed rest stops to make sure all items have been picked up and litter is removed. All remaining trash will be bagged and recycled materials bundled for transport.
